Dear Nancy

Dear Nancy,

You'll note that Karl Rove didn't show up at the Senate today. And I'll wait and see, but I imagine that the  Senate's reaction will be like yours in the House vis a vis impeachment. The maybe true/maybe false belief: The more the GOP is seen as breaking the law with impunity, the more people will vote for Dems

Here's the problem with that philosophy which, while it doesn't separate us from the apes, surely separates you and your colleagues from any claim to greatness: If George and Karl and the others can break law as they have and our side does nothing--and yes, the GOP has made a mockery of the law time and again--do you know what is going to happen when Obama's president?

If he stubs his toe one day in the White House, we'll hear loud and consistent calls for his impeachment.

The call to impeach is a tribal call which can be used wisely or unwisely. But when one party uses it for a sexual impropriety, and the other side lets them trample the law and the Constitution with impunity, (need I name all the instances?)--it will be used again in the future, in its 1998 devalued form, by the GOP.

Obama beware. [Nancy's] and Reid's abdication of their responsibility is going to empower the kickers and screamers--and the gods will weep.

Reid is just awful. I really wish Dodd were majority leader.

As for Pelosi, I have no idea how she let her caucus cave in so completely and so quickly. I'm tired of hearing how everything is the blue dogs' fault. Are they really strong enough to get everything they want passed every time?

no thank you (none / 0)

A single issue candidate that's never run for political office before? She's not even a Democrat.

Re: Dear Nancy (2.00 / 1)

I'll agree with that. Obama needs to bring this whole "Bush has abused his power" thing into the debate, either directly or by surrogate. It's important that he put John McCain on the spot about that.

Kinda disingenuous, eh? (none / 0)

Not really fair to lay 7 years of malfeasance on the shoulders of a guy who only arrived 4 years ago and has almost always been completely tangential to said impropriety.

Re: Bush has abused his powers thanks to Obama's (none / 0)

Using that logic, you'd be more accurate saying Clinton was to blame. But no, you'd still be wrong. Bush and his people did it. Cheney has been pining to expand executive privilege ever since his former boss, Richard Nixon, was persecuted (unfairly, he feels). He wanted to come into office and remove the very safeguards that Richard Nixon's misdeeds produced. And now he's mostly done it.

It isn't Obama's fault that most of Congress still doesn't have enough of a spine to stand up. He just recognizes that there's no point in trying to do anything about it while that guy is still in our White House. He will veto anything that comes down the path, he will pardon all his administration, he will take any constitutional issues up with the Supreme Court, who are salivating at the chance to take more power away from the only truly democratic branch of our entire system of government.

We need a President who will work with these issues before we can do anything. Besides, what are we going to do, impeach Bush now? How many hours you think it would be before he was pardoned by President Cheney?  How many days before he finally got to pull the trigger on Iran?

Actually, Congress isn't truly democratic, it's just the only form of national government that we elect directly and in the case of the House, the only real opportunity for a relatively small area of the country to make its voice heard.

Re: Dear Nancy (2.00 / 1)

Totally thought this was a callout diary responding to one lower down :D

They do need to send the Sargeant-At-Arms after Rove. It would be perfect symbolism for how the executive branch is avoiding responsibility - and it would show how extreme the Congress had to go.

I agree (none / 0)

Send the Sergeant-at-Arms with that crazy mace and arrest his ass when he's on the air at FOX.

Re: Dear Nancy (2.00 / 2)

IN response to Karl Rove refusing to show up today:

"No man in this country is so high that he is above the law...all the officers of the government, from the highest to the lowest, are creatures of the law and are bound to obey it." -Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.)

[Karl Rove cant claim executive privalege; it didn't work for Nixon and it wont work for him- and since he is a private citizen that should no longer apply; why cant we even get this guy to show up?!! My patience with our spineless (thats how it looks) congress and these criminals is growing short]

Korrupt Karl.... (2.00 / 2)

And, then...

...there's Karl the Plame outer...
...wantonly placing undercover CIA agents at risk.

And then there's Karl the Kampaigner......
...shamelessly violating about half of the laws on the books when it comes to illegally coordinating 527 and 501(c)4 with the White House and the RNC.

Oh, and don't forget, Karl orchestrating DOJ activity for maximum political impact, too.

Come to think of it, with all of that DOJ experience, it's no wonder he's thumbing his nose at everyone now.

Push comes to shove, and Chimpy will just pardon his ass in December!

Re: Dear Nancy (2.00 / 1)

It's quite frightening to think about the prospect of Bush, Rove, Cheney and the rest getting away with the laws they have broken over the past several years.  We need to keep pressure on the Democrats for failing us on this.
